Daventry Raynet Group

What is RAYNET ?
RAYNET is the Radio Amateurs' emergencY NETwork a voluntary organisation of highly
trained expert radio operators known as ‘Amateur Radio Operators’, that provide communications
for a number of services for both planned events and emergencies.
Please note that the term ‘Amateur’ only means that it is not our profession, other people may
incorrectly use the term to mean people who are not experts.

What we can do for you
Our remit, as handed down by an executive office of the Home Office called the
‘Radio Communications Agency’ is to provide support communication for the following services.
The Police, Ambulance, Fire Service and Coastguard.
 Local Emergency Planning Officers.
Any Government Department or Health Authority.
The Red Cross and the St. Johns Ambulance and St Andrew’s Ambulance.
The WRVs, Salvation Army.
Any Local Utility.

With RAYNET handling the communications other services can spend their time more effectively
doing what they do best. It is a waste of resource for a paramedic to spend half an hour trying to
radio a list of supplies or names of casualties to his control room when his time could be better-spent treating victims.

Our members come from a wide variety of backgrounds and expertise so you get a national organisation
with a lot of local knowledge.

It should be remembered that RAYNET is often amongst the first people to attend and is usually there
well past the natural end of the event. RAYNET is a communication service, it should not be regarded
as extra marshalling or security guards etc.

We are a voluntary organisation and rely on donations from the people we help to keep going.
